About Desormeaux Meats

Desormeaux Meats was founded in 1966 by Jean-Guy Desormeaux, in the tiny town of Crysler, ON, and has been thriving since then. A provincially licensed abattoir, Desormeaux Meats processes beef, pork, lamb, and more for lots of local farmers, while providing fresh local meats to the general public. 
In 2019, two months after new owners, Brian and Lis Vandenberg, bought Desormeaux Meats, a fire broke out, closing the shop indefinitely.
Through lots of hard work and the blessings brought by community, Brian and Lis were able to rebuild and reopen the shop earlier than expected! In April 2020, amid a global pandemic, Desormeaux Meats was ready to serve the public again, bringing delicious meats back to the community.

Brian

Birthday: August 7

Favourite Cut: Like a good Dutchman, Brian loves ground beef! Versatile and great for everything!

After selling his farm, Brian purchased Desormeaux Meats in 2019, looking for something new to do! He loves learning and seeing how the farming industry all connects!

Dan

Birthday: February 10

Favourite Cut: Ribeye Steak. Dan always loves having something cooking!

Dan has been on-and-off with Desormeaux Meats for a long time! He is a nephew of the late Jean-Guy Desormeaux, and has worked here from the time he was a young man. After managing many meat departments, Dan is happy to conclude his career here at Desormeaux Meats

Jean-Marc

Birthday: July 12

Favourite Cut: Jean-Marc loves a good t-bone or ribeye! 

Our resident "Saw Master," Jean-Marc is the son of original owner Jean-Guy and has been here since he was born. Being a butcher is in his blood! Jean-Marc enjoys cutting meat and pressure washing!

Amy

Birthday: March 5

Favourite Cut: Amy enjoys all kinds of meats, but her favourite is a well-marbled ribeye steak!

Amy has been at Desormeaux Meats since April 2020. Growing up on a farm, she has dreamed of being a butcher since she was a little kid. She has a social work degree but is so happy to be in her dream job!

Alain

Birthday: November 5

Favourite Cut: Alain enjoys steak in general, but favourites are minute steak and ribeye steak!

Alain used to work for Jean Guy when he was a teenager! He left the industry for a while to become an expert in concrete, but returned to his bread-and-butter, meat cutting in October 2024.

Kevyn

Birthday: December 10 

Favourite Cut: To eat: ribeye steak. To cut: anything from the hip of beef 

Kevyn, our beloved Newfie, has been here since March 2023. He is a trained chef and was always interested in cutting meat. When the opportunity popped up, he shot his shot, and the rest is history.

Rick

Birthday: July 14

Favourite Cut: Bacon-wrapped tornadoes

Rick has been with us since March 2021. He grew up on a farm and was a farm equipment technician for many years before coming to Desormeaux Meats. He's Mr. Fix-It around here!

Lindsay

Birthday: March 21

Favourite Cut: Lindsay enjoys all cuts of meat and has a hard time narrowing it down! He’s a chef, so he loves cooking with creativity

Lindsay joined the team in August 2025. He’s returning to meat cutting after a long hiatus. Trained chef, plumber, and jack of all trades, he really enjoys being back in the meat industry!

Cataline

Birthday: July 13

Favourite Cut: Ribeye is Cat's favourite, but she's happy as long as at least two animals died for her meal!

Cat has been with us since April 2024. She loves farming on her ‘halfway homestead’ with all her sheep. She attended the Seaway Valley Meat Cutting School in order to learn how meat works! Cataline has also developed the special skill of naturally tanning hides! If you stick around, you might see her doing her happy steak dance!

Nick

Birthday: December 6

Favourite Cut: Ribeye Steak

Nick began in August 2025. He wants to be an electrician, but is enjoying learning to cut and wrap meat in the meantime. "Lil Nicky" is always up for anything! If you give him a task, he will complete it, even while singing off-key!

Kim

Birthday: December 10

Favourite Cut: Striploin Steak

Kim has been at Desormeaux Meats since August 2025. She comes from lots of retail experience and is now learning about meat!
